2020 Census
2020 is an important year, not just because it’s a Presidential election year, but also because of the 2020 Census. The decennial census is mandated by our Constitution and is the basis for many important things, including reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting and distributing billion of dollars in federal funds to support state, counties and communities’ important and vital programs. These programs impact housing, education, transportation, health care and public policy.
The League of Women Voters of Monmouth County, a non-partisan group, sponsors a series of “Hot Topics”, the first of which is “Prepare to Be Counted – The Implications of the 2020 Census. Speakers at past Hot Topics Series have been very informative. Please attend to learn what is at risk and why an accurate census is important for democracy. It’s free!
