Some of you may have seen the election results for the Holmdel primary, in particular for the Township Committee.
You should know that those results are very preliminary.
Election results prior to the coronavirus pandemic were largely determined by machine counts at the polling stations. To a very large extent, this accounts substantially for the election results. However, the results for this year is very different due to 100% mail-in ballots as ordered by Governor Phil Murphy.
As of July 6th, Monday night, more than 2,700 mail-in ballots from Holmdel voters were received by the Monmouth County Board of Elections. Of those, more than 1,850 were from registered Republicans. The results published as of Tues night, July 7th, reflect results for about 850 Republican ballots. There are more than 1,000 ballots that still need to be processed and tallied.
In addition, there were more than 300 provisional ballots cast at the polling stations on Tuesday. Many of those are likely to be from Republican voters.
This year, the window for receiving mail-in ballots was extended from 48 hours to seven days. So, all ballots, including provisional ballots will not be counted until July 15th, at the earliest.
Stay tuned.
