Note: Kin Gee, an Editor/Writer of Better Holmdel, is a Member and Chairman of the Holmdel Charter Study Commission.

The Holmdel Charter Study Commission will be holding its first PUBLIC HEARING on Thursday, Feb. 3rd, at 7 PM on a virtual basis by Zoom (see the Zoom link below).

Residents are encouraged to join the Zoom call to share their opinions regarding Holmdel’s current Township Committee form of local government, including its strengths and weaknesses and areas where it can be improved.

For example:

1. Should the mayor be directly elected by voters?

2. Should residents have the power to petition for ballot measures regarding public questions and/or ordinances (known as initiative and referendum by petition)?

3. Do you believe your district’s interests are being fairly represented?

4. How do you feel about local elections being held every year?

5. Some forms of local government allow for elections on a nonpartisan basis. How do you feel about local elections being held on a partisan or nonpartisan basis?

6. Do you believe that Holmdel has the right number of elected officials on the governing body?

7. Do you believe that good candidates are getting the chance to appear prominently on the ballot and get elected?
