Holmdel BOE to Increase Taxes by $1 Million
May 6, 2020 – A public hearing for a $1 million increase in tax levy is expected to be scheduled at tonight’s regular business meeting by the Holmdel Board of Education.
According to an article in CentralJersey.com (see link below), New Jersey State Department of Education will increase state aid to Holmdel to $3.04 million from $2.58 million. In Middletown and Hazlet, the state aid was cut by almost $1 million. Despite this, the tax levy to support the new proposed budget will increase from $58.6 million to $59.6 million.
Approximately 68% of Holmdel property tax is for schools and only about 16% goes toward the Holmdel municipal budget. The balance goes to Monmouth County.
In its 2020 rankings, US News & World Report ranked Holmdel High School #63 among New Jersey high schools after ranking it #106 in 2019.
Like many meetings, the BOE meeting will be conducted on a virtual basis through Zoom at 7 PM. Interested resident can participate by telephone or by a Zoom link. See the following link:
