September 12, 2026 - Grassroots group SHIELD — Stop Holmdel Industrial Energy Load Data-center — has launched a petition urging Ralph Zucker, CEO of Somerset Development, to withdraw the proposed data center application at Bell Works. The petition has garnered more than 450 signatures in just a few days, reflecting growing community concern over the project.

SHIELD has identified five major concerns with the proposed data center:

  • 24/7 low-frequency humming noise

  • On-site storage of large quantities of diesel fuel

  • Potential mobilization of hazardous chemical contamination into a drinking-water source

  • Higher electric rates resulting from massive new power demand

  • Potential impacts on nearby property values

The petition notes that Zucker has said he values his relationship with Holmdel and wants to protect the community’s interests and character. SHIELD is now asking him to put those words into action by withdrawing the data center application.

Residents are urged to sign the petition and share it with friends, neighbors, and fellow Holmdel residents.
